Location & Surrounding
Mui Wo village is one of Lantau’s busiest communities, offering an enticing blend of traditional and modern living.
It is of course recognised as the starting point of many a ‘Lantau adventure’ thanks to the highly convenient ferry pier and 30 minute connection to Central on Hong Kong Island amongst other destinations. A finer cross-section of available activities is hard to find in Hong Kong, especially when combined with the tranquility of what has come to be known as ‘the South Lantau Lifestyle’.
The Beach:
Silvermine Beach and Silvermine Beach Resort await everyone who loves the sea, the sand and a day at the beach. Incidentally, you’ll find that the water is much clearer out here, and is home to the wonders of the sea including the bottle-nosed dolphins that are occasionally seen in these parts.
Hiking & Natural Surroundings
The hiking trails on Lantau need no introduction, and they start from Mui Wo village. Whether you are walking, running or biking, you will find a tapestry of trails to explore in a part of Hong Kong that is rarely seen by visitors or long term city residents. Close to the village, you will find a series of waterfalls on the trails that are great for a dip in the summer and a refreshing drink for your favourite canine if you happen to have your dog with you.
Restaurants, Bars & Cafes:
Mui Wo has a wide choice of places to eat, drink and make merry. A few examples are shown below, but you will find others and there are some that the locals keep closely guarded.
China Bear – Self styled Pub serving food & alcohol, almost unmissable it sits on the waterfront in prime position near the ferry pier
Cafe Isara – A different kind of Pub offering pool, darts and sport on TV, it serves Thai food on the menu and it’s good, very good !
The Kitchen – A nice little Italian restaurant that makes its own pasta
Wah Kee – Cantonese cuisine and a view out to Sea
Tai Chai Kee Seafood – Fresh seafood and Cantonese dishes
Bahce Turkish Restaurant – A favourite destination restaurant of many from HK Island, the Turkish fare is one of the most popular
Deer Horn Bar & Restaurant – Specialising in Nepalese cuisine and alcohol
China Beach Club – Western food on the beach
Traditional Buildings & Sights:
There are temples to explore such as the Man Mo Temple, thought to be over 400 years old, as well as natural phenomenon like the Bat caves (the real thing, not the home of the fictitious superhero)
